Kim Chiu and Xian Lim will be at Piyesta Pinoy

Celebrate Philippine Independence Day!   

CHICAGO, May 11  – The greater Chicago’s biggest Filipino American festival, in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day, returns to Bolingbrook for the third year this summer. Join us for a massive 11-hour festival, Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the sprawling Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center, next to the Bolingbrook Village Hall and Town Center.

Piyesta Pinoy, or Philippine Fest, is as annual celebration and showcase of Filipino heritage and culture. It features a variety of cultural and fun activities for all generations – live music and dances from both contemporary and folk performers, authentic Filipino cuisine, cultural exhibits, arts & crafts, train ride, rock climbing, pabitin and other children’s games, a costume parade and other children’s activities. Last year’s official attendance is 7,000 over a 12 hour non-stop entertainment schedule that featured famous celebrity artists (Sam Milby and Geneva Cruz), four musical bands, three chefs who did food cooking demos plus several local cultural music and dance groups. Mayor Roger Claar of Bolingbrook, Illinois State Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger and Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White were also in attendance.

This year, Piyesta Pinoy Bolingbrook is expecting to attract an even bigger crowd as we welcome The Filipino Channel as our exclusive Philippine media partner and sponsor for the second year. Fil-Am love team Jandy/KimXi (Kim Chiu & Xian Lim Love team) will be coming to town and will be performing during the TFC hour portion of the festival. Kim Chiu is a Chinese Filipino actress and model in the Philippines. She starred in several films including Bride for Rent (2014), the sixth highest grossing Filipino film of all time grossing P326 million at the box office. She has received a PMPC Award for Best Drama Actress, four FAMAS Award nominations (winning one) and was hailed Princess of Philippine Movies and TV for her accomplishments in the film and television industry. Xian Lim is a Chinese-Filipino actor, model and singer. Lim is famous for playing the roles of Andy in the series, My Binondo Girl in 2011 and Rocco in the blockbuster hit movie, Bride for Rent. Kim Chiu as Cristine “Tin” Manalo and Xian Lim as Ferdinand “Macoy” Sandoval are currently starring in The Story of Us, a 2016 Philippine romantic melodrama television series directed by Richard Somes. The series premiered on ABS-CBN and worldwide on The Filipino Channel on February 29, 2016, replacing On the Wings of Love.

In addition to the TFC hour, there will be many other local singers, dancers, musicians and artists who will be performing at the beautiful state-of-the-art Bolingbrook performing arts stage. There will also be more vendors who are joining the piyesta this year; we will have at least ten food vendors selling all sorts of Filipino favorite foods from adobo, lechon and pansit to halo-halo, Magnolia ice cream and Goldilocks ensaymada.

We are also looking for lots of volunteers to help with logistics, security, first aid, children’s activities and other miscellaneous tasks during the day of the event.
